Food and Fuel - shopping

Llanberis and the surrounding area is full of good places to eat and to take-away from. We have no connection to any of the businesses mentioned except as happy customers.

'Petes Eats' is the classic outdoor pursuits cafe. Good value, no nonsense food and a free juke box.     01286 870117

'Allports' fish and chip shop is very good and part of an award winning chain.

For a posher sit down meal 'The Peak Brasserie' is very good.     01286 872777

Another nice lunch time cafe is 'Connections' in the Electric Mountain visitor centre. Good quality home made food.

In Brynrefail is 'Caban' which opens lunch times and evenings and provides anything from a sandwich to a full meal and is licensed.

Nearest Food and Fuel is 'Beran' petrol station which is on the A4244 just round the corner. It is also a COSTCUTTER and stays open 24 hours a day.

Nearest big supermarket is TESCO in Bangor which is a 24 hour superstore. Caernarfon also has a smaller TESCO and a Morrisons.

Llanberis has a good sized SPAR shop and a Londis both of which stay open late and both are off licenses.

Deiniolen has a LATE SHOP which sells groceries.

Caernarfon also has a good variety of places to eat in many different styles of cuisine.

'Pigs and Stones Bistro' in the old town is very good value for money and has a special Welsh Lamb dish which you won't forget in a hurry. It also caters well for vegetarians.

Wavells the Butchers in Llanrug is particularly good and their sausages regularly win world class prizes. Recently expanded to include a delicatessen.

There are also the usual selection of burnt burgers and multinational nastiness if that's your bag. We'd recommend that you try real food instead.

'Sopna' is an award winning Indian Restaurant on the road from Llanberis to Caernarfon at Pont Rug. It does both sit down and take-away food.

Local Producers

There are some local producers of food and drink worthy of note.

Halen Mon produce hand made organic sea salt using the water of the Menai Strait. It is used all around the world in some of the top Michelin starred restaurants.

For Real Ale drinkers there are a couple of very good local micro breweries. The Ales of 'The Purple Moose Brewery', brewed in Porthmadog can be found on draught and in bottles all over North wales. Also in Porthmadog is 'Spooners Bar' which has won several awards from CAMRA. In Waunfawr is the 'Snowdonia Park Brewpub' which makes several of its own very good beers on site which go very nicely with the good food also served.
